Detailed information

Product detailed description

senkichi_logo

A high-quality Japanese planer of smaller dimensions, called Hira Kanna, for common woodworking tasks. Kanna planers have a very simple design. The blade is made from high-quality Japanese carbon steel and needs to be set into the planer's body with a few hammer taps before first use, which also allows you to adjust the size of the wood shaving removed. To thin the shaving, simply tap the body of the planer. The thickness of the shaving and the smoothness of the surface depend on the personal adjustment of the blade. Ideally, the blade should protrude 0.05 to 0.2 mm from the body of the planer.

Like Japanese saws, Japanese planers are traditionally used by pulling towards oneself. One hand should guide the planer while the other gently pushes the planer against the material.

How to Use a Japanese Planer

japonsky_hoblik_informaceHold the Kanna with both hands - one hand holds the rear part of the planer with the blade, and the other creates an L shape between the index finger and thumb, holding the part of the planer facing the user. With the movement of your body weight, pull the Kanna towards you with even and extended movements. There's no need to exert excessive force; the planer must work smoothly.

How to Adjust the Blade of a Japanese Planer

japonsky_hoblik_informaceWhen setting the blade, lightly tap the top of the blade with a hammer. The blade should protrude approximately 0.05 to 0.2 mm. When removing the blade, lightly tap the hammer on the upper corners of the planer's body. If the right or left side of the blade protrudes too much, lightly tap on the same side as the protruding blade.

What to Watch Out For

japonsky_hoblik_informaceAlthough the Japanese planer is not a demanding tool, for it to function properly, remember that you must plane in the direction of the wood grain and the blade must not protrude too much. Otherwise, the Japanese planer will not work well. The Japanese planer must be adjusted before use according to personal preferences.
